How We Research AI Coding Tools
VibecodedThis is a comparison and aggregation site. Here's how we put it together and what you should know about our data.
Last updated: February 2026
Our Approach
We combine hands-on experience with extensive web research. We've personally used many of the tools on this site — but not all of them. For tools we haven't used directly, we rely on official documentation, pricing pages, changelogs, and the broader developer community's experience.
We're transparent about this because we think it's more honest than claiming to have deeply tested every tool. The AI coding space moves fast, with new tools launching and existing ones changing weekly. No single person or team can stay current on all of them.
What We Track
For each tool, we gather and verify:
- Pricing — Plans, free tiers, and starting prices, sourced directly from official pricing pages
- Capabilities — What features the tool supports (code completion, chat, agentic mode, etc.)
- Platform support — Which editors, IDEs, and operating systems are supported
- Category — Whether it's an IDE, extension, CLI tool, agent, app builder, or assistant
- Enterprise features — SSO, SOC 2, self-hosting, open source status
What We Don't Do
- We don't assign numeric scores. A single number can't capture whether a tool fits your workflow.
- We don't declare "winners" in comparisons. Different tools suit different needs — though we do recognize standout tools with our Seal of Approval (see below).
- We don't show specific usage limits (request counts, token quotas) because these change constantly. We link to official pricing pages so you can check current limits.
- We don't claim a tool lacks a feature unless we're certain — if we're unsure, we show a dash rather than an X.
- We don't accept payment for positive reviews or rankings.
Seal of Approval
While we don't rank tools or assign scores, we do award our VibecodedThis Seal of Approval to a small number of tools we consider genuinely best-in-class. The seal is based on:
- Deep hands-on testing — we've used the tool extensively in real projects, not just demos
- Capability breadth — the tool handles a wide range of coding tasks well
- Reliability — it works consistently and predictably
- Active development — the team ships meaningful updates regularly
- Developer trust — the broader developer community relies on it
The seal does not affect how we present data, pricing, or comparisons. Every tool gets the same objective coverage regardless of seal status.
Pricing Verification
Every pricing claim on this site links to the tool's official pricing page and includes a "last verified" date. Pricing changes frequently — always check the source before purchasing.
