Base44 launches Base Code, an AI workspace that opens your existing GitHub repo to the whole team
Wix's Base44 is moving past greenfield app building: Base Code connects an existing GitHub repository to a shared cloud workspace where anyone can propose changes in plain language and ship them as pull requests.
Base44, the AI app builder Wix acquired in June 2025, launched a standalone product on Monday called Base Code. The pitch flips the usual vibe-coding story: instead of generating new apps from a prompt, Base Code points the agent at code you already have.
Connect a GitHub repository and Base Code's agent reads the codebase, then provisions a cloud environment for it: databases, infrastructure, sample data, everything needed to get a live preview running. From there, developers and non-developers alike describe changes in plain-language chat, watch them render in the live preview, and ship them as standard GitHub pull requests. The company says the agent takes on even complex repositories, and the conversation can run on a choice of multiple AI models rather than a single provider's.
The workflow is deliberately conservative about who gets the final say. Changes land on isolated branches, every change returns as a standard pull request, and existing branch protections, required checks and review rules stay in place. Opening a pull request still requires GitHub write access, and engineering decides what merges. Workspace owners can restrict repository imports to approved GitHub organizations, and secrets are stored encrypted, shared across branches and never committed to the repository. Nothing runs locally: projects live in the cloud, accessible from a browser or a phone, with no environment to configure.
"Until now, AI coding tools have largely served engineers, while the rest of the product team has remained dependent on them for even the smallest changes," said Yoav Orlev, Base44's chief product officer, in the announcement. "Base Code opens a new path for PMs, designers, QA, and operations teams to contribute directly to existing codebases, while keeping engineers in control of the review process."
Base Code joins the Base44 app builder, Superagents and Base44 Backend in the lineup, and the company says it is now one of the few AI platforms operating on real production software rather than greenfield projects alone. Founder Maor Shlomo framed it more ambitiously, calling Base Code "an early preview of how we think software will be built in the future", with the company positioning it as a foundation for AI-powered software factories where agents triage support tickets, fix bugs and push verified updates. Future access is planned beyond the browser, including phones and messaging apps.
Base Code is available now to all Base44 builders. Founded in 2024 by Shlomo, Base44 was acquired by Wix.com in June 2025, and this is the company's first big move into the enterprise market where the code already exists and the backlog is the bottleneck.
