The $9 billion AI coding platform chose London over any European city for its international expansion, bringing Sadiq Khan to the ribbon-cutting and plans to double headcount.
Replit opened its first international office on September 8 in King’s Cross Knowledge Quarter, London. Mayor Sadiq Khan attended the ribbon-cutting. The company is valued at $9 billion.
The London office is the first Replit location outside San Francisco. The company cited London’s concentration of enterprise clients and AI-adjacent institutions as the pull. European customers include PwC, Ernst & Young, Mercedes-Benz Group, TrustPilot, and Hg. Overall, Replit says it serves 85% of the Fortune 500 and has more than 60 million users.
CEO Amjad Masad was pointed about the choice. In comments to Tech.eu at the opening, he described Silicon Valley’s culture as a “monoculture” and said London offered something different.
Plans for the Office
Replit plans to double headcount and investment at the London location over the next year. The company is also partnering with The Lord Mayor’s Appeal to teach coding to 100 young Londoners who are not in education or employment.
London has attracted 86 AI-related foreign direct investment projects since 2025, more than any other European city. Replit is one of the more prominent ones.
Recent Product Updates
Alongside the office news, Replit announced a few product additions:
- The Replit Agent now runs automatic Semgrep security scans on generated code, flagging risky patterns and hardcoded secrets before they go to production.
- Scheduled backups are now available for production databases.
- Project Analytics for published web apps shows visitor trends, traffic sources, and device breakdowns.
The Semgrep integration is the most notable. Replit has historically been the vibe coding platform that made it fastest to go from zero to deployed, sometimes at the cost of code quality. Putting security scanning directly in the agent’s workflow is a direct response to that reputation.
