Claude Tag, now in beta for Team and Enterprise customers, puts @Claude in your Slack channels as a shared, always-on AI teammate that learns from conversations, works asynchronously, and can handle multi-step coding tasks.
Anthropic launched Claude Tag on June 23 in beta for Claude Enterprise and Team customers. It puts @Claude in your Slack channels as a shared team identity — not a personal chatbot — and gives it the ability to watch conversations, take on tasks, and follow through asynchronously.
The core idea is that Claude isn’t a tool you open. It’s in the room with you, following along.
What Claude Tag Does
When you tag @Claude in a Slack channel, it breaks the request into stages and works through them using whatever tools, data, and codebases you’ve granted it access to. When it’s done, it responds in thread with the result.
Because Claude Tag is multiplayer, there’s one Claude per channel that everyone in the channel interacts with. Someone can hand off mid-task, and Claude already has the context. There’s no need to re-explain the project from scratch to a fresh session.
Claude Tag also builds up context over time by following its assigned channels. The more it’s in the room, the less explaining you have to do.
Ambient Mode
If you enable ambient behavior, Claude doesn’t just wait to be tagged. It proactively surfaces information it thinks the channel needs: flagging relevant updates from other channels, following up on threads that have gone quiet, and tracking tasks that were assigned but not closed.
Admins control how far that ambient access reaches. Claude gets access only to channels an administrator explicitly grants, and separate Claude identities can be scoped per department so the engineering team’s Claude doesn’t have visibility into what sales is discussing.
Coding Workflow
For development teams, Claude Tag routes coding tasks to full Claude Code sessions in the browser and posts progress updates back to the thread. You can assign a bug fix or a refactor in plain language, context-switch to something else, and check the thread when Claude pings with its progress.
Anthropic’s own product team runs an internal version of Claude Tag. By their own count, 65 percent of the code their product team writes now comes from it — including most of the code used to build Claude Tag itself.
Administration
Admins get token spend limits per channel, a full activity audit, and the ability to revoke access at any time. Claude Tag replaces the existing Claude in Slack app; administrators have 30 days to opt in before the migration happens automatically.
It runs on Opus 4.8, which means it’s pulling from the same model that powers Claude Code’s most capable sessions.
Availability
Claude Tag is in beta now for Claude Enterprise and Team plan subscribers. Anthropic hasn’t announced pricing specific to Claude Tag beyond the existing plan tiers, though heavy async use will draw from API usage credits.
Salesforce is listed as a launch integration partner for the admin controls and data connector layer, which suggests Salesforce CRM data can be one of the connected sources for Enterprise customers.
