Anthropic Takes Claude to Wealth Management With Schwab as Launch Partner

Anthropic launched Claude for Financial Advisors on Sept 14 with Charles Schwab as marquee partner — wiring Claude into balances, positions, and transactions for ~16,000 RIA firms via connectors to Schwab, Addepar, and Vanguard.

Anthropic is taking Claude into wealth management. The company launched Claude for Financial Advisors on Monday, a suite of AI tools aimed at financial advisors, with Charles Schwab as its marquee launch partner. The offering is designed to help advisors with research, preparation for client meetings, documentation, and drafting emails. Peter Nolan, Anthropic's head of asset and wealth management, called it "the foundation for an AI-native wealth management practice."

The meaningful part of the announcement is the data plumbing. Schwab Advisor Services, which provides a trading platform and custody for roughly 16,000 registered investment advisory firms, will connect Claude to its own data: balances, positions, transactions, and money-movement status. "We have a very rich data set that Claude can access on our platform," said Jon Beatty, head of Schwab Advisor Services. The product also connects to advisors' existing systems for client relationship management, portfolio reporting, and financial planning. Anthropic named connectors for Addepar, the portfolio analytics provider, and Vanguard, the asset manager and model-portfolio provider.

Connectors, not chat

The architecture here matters more than the feature list. Claude for Financial Advisors is not a chatbot with a finance skin; it is Claude wired into the systems advisors already use, with live access to client and portfolio data. That follows a pattern Anthropic has been building all year: in May, the alternatives platform CAIS shipped a Model Context Protocol server letting advisors query fund data and portfolio analytics from inside Claude. The Schwab integration is the same idea at far larger scale — the AI meets the advisor inside the custodian's data rather than asking the advisor to bring data to the AI.

Why Schwab is the partner that counts

Distribution in wealth management runs through custodians, and Schwab's Advisor Services unit sits underneath thousands of independent firms. Schwab's technology leadership has been public about an AI vision for the advisor platform, so Monday's launch reads as execution on a stated strategy rather than an experiment. For Anthropic, landing Schwab means Claude gets a direct channel into the daily workflows of a large share of the RIA market — the kind of distribution a model lab cannot build on its own.

The vertical playbook

Step back and the strategy is legible: Anthropic is productizing Claude industry by industry, and the moat in each vertical is data access plus workflow integration, not the model itself. Any frontier model can draft an email. Only a product wired into Schwab's balances, Addepar's analytics, and Vanguard's model portfolios can do an advisor's actual job. That cuts both ways — it makes the product genuinely useful, and it makes Anthropic dependent on partners who own the data. Details on pricing and availability were not disclosed in the reporting so far. Schwab shares rose 0.2% Monday morning and are up 7.6% this year, per Barron's. The open question is how many more custodians and platforms sign on, and whether advisors trust an AI with money-movement data enough to let it act rather than just draft.
